Mary Ellen Sanders was born on January 9, 1926 in Erie, PA, to Earl and Evelyn Hanson. She had two other siblings.
Mary graduated from Greenwich High School in 1944. She moved to Washington DC and went to work at the Pentagon in the aerial maps department during World War II. After the war was over she returned to Greenwich where she married her high school sweetheart Ray Sanders.
Ray and Mary were married June 23, 1946. They had four living children, Sandra Lamoreaux (husband Gene), Joan Underwood (husband Robert) Richard (wife Sandy), and Thomas (wife Cheryl). Mary had six grandchildren, Brad (Elizabeth) Lamoreaux, Melia (Marc) Lamoreaux, Gena (Joe) Williams, Chad (Chrissie) Sanders, Rainette (Rob) Mainwaring and LeeAnn (Jim) Anger and twenty-one great grandchildren.
Mary was a 4-H advisor with Ray. They had the Mane and Tail Saddle Club for 10 years. She worked at the May Company in Sandusky and was an Avon lady. She also enjoyed baking and decorating cakes. She was very artistic. She worked at making flower arrangements and wedding bouquets in area flower shops and in her later years she took up water color painting. Some of her paintings were used by the nursing home for their Christmas greeting cards. Mary also crocheted baby hats and blankets for area hospitals for their nurseries. She had bible studies at the nursing home. Her faith was very important to her and she loved to share it.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; two infant children, Thomas Earl and Diane Rae; brother, William Hanson; sister-in-law, Joan Hanson; sister, Betty Bender and her brother-in-law, "Bud" Lawrence Bender.
A visitation for relatives and friends will be held from 10 am until the noon service on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at New London Alliance Church with Pastor Doug Lang officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwich Greenlawn Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Mary's honor can be given to the New London Alliance Church, 4625 State Route 162 West, New London, Ohio 44851.
