Mary Belle Sanders, age 90, of Medina and formerly of New London, died Friday, morning, February 15, 2008 at Medina General Hospital after a short illness. She was born February 2, 1918 at home in Clarksfield, Ohio, daughter of the late Jay C. and Lena (Stiles) Thomas. She had lived in New London until moving to Medina in 2004. Mrs. Sanders was a 1936 graduate of New London High School. She had attended Kent State University. Mrs. Sanders was a member of the New London United Methodist Church, the New London American Legion Broome Wood Post 292 Auxiliary, she was the Huron County Republicans Woman of the Year 2000, a former secretary for the original New London Ambulance Board, and the former secretary/treasurer for the New London Library.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lou (Bill) Ridle of Medina; 3 grandchildren, Chuck (Karen) Ridle of Richmond, Va., Kelly Ridle of Staten Island, N.Y., Christopher Ridle of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother, Charles V. Thomas of Boston, Ma.; sister in law, Shirley Thomas of New London; brother in law, Bob Crumrine of New London; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Sanders in 1971, her sisters, Dorothy Shibley, Tessie Desman, Joey Crumrine; her brothers, Jay D. Thomas, Barney Thomas and Robert Thomas.
Friends may call from 6 ' 8 p.m. Monday, February 18, 2008 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday at the New London United Methodist Church, 58 E. Main St., New London with Toby Thomas, her nephew officiating. Burial will follow at Grove Street Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be given to the New London Public Library, 67 South Main St., New London, Ohio 44851 or to the New London Historical Society 210 East Main St., New London.
