Maxine Lillian Laisy, of Wellington, died Thursday, August 7, 2008 at the Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin, she was 96. Mrs. Laisy was born June 20, 1912 in Penfield, daughter of the late, Melvin & Winifred (Starr) Hopkins. She had resided in the area all of her life. Maxine graduated in 1929 from LaGrange High School and went on to attend Kent State, Ohio State and Ashland College. She was a first grade teacher, having taught at Wellington, South Amherst and Oberlin. Maxine is survived by a step-daughter, Donna Heimbuch of Shasta Lake, CA; a brother, Leo 'Bud' Hopkins of Texas; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry D., whom she married in 1947; and her sister, Pat Cooley. Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 11th at Norton-Eastman Funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Pittsfield Community Church, 17026 State Rte 58, Wellington, Ohio 44090 or a charity of choice.
