Melinda S. Alonso-Ackerman, age 58, of Norwalk, died on Friday, September 20, 2024 following a lengthy illness.
Melinda was born on March 13, 1966 in Sandusky, Ohio. She was a 1984 graduate of Western Reserve High School where she participated in the school marching band. Melinda also attended EHOVE Joint Vocational School where she studied DCHO, receiving her certificate of completion in 1984.
Melinda was employed as a State Tested Nursing Assistant at Edison HealthCare Center in Milan, Ohio and she also worked at Gaymont Nursing Center in Norwalk, Ohio. Melinda was a former employee of Berry Plastics in Monroeville, Ohio.
Melinda enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, reading, and sitting outside listening to her windchimes while savoring her favorite beverage from Sherri's Coffee House. She liked playing the pull tab and scratch off lottery tickets, always hoping to hit big. Melinda liked crocheting special Afghans for family and friends; all that received them admired her special skill and will cherish these keepsakes forever.
Melinda is survived by her husband, Jose Alonso; son, Bryan Wolford of Tuscon, Arizona; daughters, Maerri K. Ritter, Tiffany (Cody) Wildman, and Amber L. Ackerman, all of Norwalk; grandchildren, Olivia Weirich and Colleen Hunt of Norwalk, Allison and Xavier Wildman of Norwalk, and Adelina and Brycen Ackerman, of Norwalk. She is also survived by a sister, Ronda L. Ackerman of Norwalk and a brother, Ronald Ackerman Jr. of Norwalk.
Melinda was preceded in death by her parents, Ronald Ackerman Sr. in October, 2010, and Judy C. Ackerman in November of 2019; her paternal grandparents Wilbur Ackerman Sr. in 1977 and Julie C. Schoewe in 1987; maternal grandparents Basil L. Wyant in 1996, and S. Marie Wyant in 2003; and many special aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, OH 44857. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at noon with Pastor Prong officiating. Per Melinda's wishes, cremation will take place after services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH or to the family.
