Michael Allen Smith, 63, of Delphi, OH, passed away April 14, 2020 at The Ohio State University, Wexner Center Hospital in Columbus following complications from heart surgery. He was born on July 19, 1956 to Robert L. Smith of Willard, OH and the late Virginia E. (Newmeyer) Smith. Michael graduated from South Central High School in 1974.
He was an accomplished welder and an avid hunter. He served his country as part of the 612th Engineer Battalion Company C. of the Ohio National Guard where he was a heavy equipment operator.
Mike had worked for M.T.D., (Willard), David Price Metal Service (Norwalk), Clevite (Milan), Quanex (Shelby) as well as helping many Ripley and Greenwich area farmers. He was also co-operator of "My World Donkey Farm" raising miniatures. Mike had a reputation for his inventiveness and creativity with many "work smarter not harder tools".
After attending the Kentucky Derby, Mike exclaimed, "Too many people for me!" and spent his life in a small "crossroads town existence", which made him very happy.
Survivors include his father, Robert L. Smith; brothers, Randall E. (Loretta) Smith of Monroeville, OH and Daryl "Scott" Smith (Lista Stewart) of Plymouth, OH, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia E. (Newmeyer) Smith and sister, Jenny Lynn Tuttle Smith; grandparents, Vernie J. (Helen) Smith and Henry (Harmina) Newmeyer.
