Obituary

Michael S. Lacy, age 95, of Nova, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014 at his home. He was born July 7, 1918 in Elyria, Ohio, son of the late Michael and Clara (Yoba) Lacy. In 1932 Michael moved to Troy Twp., Ohio. He was a 1936 graduate of Troy Centralized High School in Nova. Michael served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He volunteered for the Army in 1941 then went to Fort Knox for basic training and was stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington and Indio, California. After 3 months of Communication School back at Fort Knox, he was sent overseas to England in December of 1941. Michael went to Africa and then on to Italy for 3 years until the war ended in 1945. He had served a total of 30 months on the front lines with the 752nd Tank Battalion. Michael received the Bronze Star and Company Citation. After returning from the war he started a farm machinery business with his brother in 1946. When the company dissolved he took to the road as a salesman for TISCO (Tractor Implement Supply Co.) having retired in 1989. He loved to watch his grandchildren play ball and he loved to golf. He is survived by his children, Ed (Claudia) Lacy of Clarkesville, Georgia, Diane Steiner of Ashland, Lorin (Cindi) Lacy of Upper St. Clair, PA., Michelle (Rick) Ringler of Nova; 11 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren; his caregiver, Janet Cleugh of Nova. He was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew Lacy, his son-in-law, Stan Steiner and his great grandson. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London. Burial with military rites will follow at the Nova Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be given to Hospice of North Central Ohio, Inc., 1050 Dauch Dr., Ashland, Ohio 44805 or to the donors favorite charity.
