Michael Lane Wood, 67, of Wellington, died Monday, September 11, 2017, at home surrounded by his family. Born on May 2, 1950 in Greenfield, OH, he was the son of Alden "Jack" and Mary Elizabeth (nee Welch) Wood. Michael graduated from South Amherst High School in 1968 and then attended LCCC and Cleveland State where he obtained a bachelors degree. An electrical engineer, Michael worked for Bearings Manufacturing Technology and retired this past April. Michael was an active participant in the lives of his children and became a Scout Master with Wellington Troop 414 for several years, and also served as a t-ball coach in Brighton. He was a member of the Wellington Eagles and the Rochester Rod and Gun Club. Michael enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing, boating, and hunting. As a youth he would spend the summers in North Carolina with his grandparents. Michael was a talented photographer as well. Another passion of Michael's was genealogy which allowed him to travel to Scotland in pursuit of his family history. Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, June (nee Bowsher) Wood; children Brian Michael (Jessica) Wood, of Rittman, Kristina (William Thomas) Crain, of Dallas TX, and Patrick Ryan Wood, of South Amherst; grandchildren Ian, Taylor, Melissa, Catherine, William, and Derek; parents Jack and Mary Wood, of South Amherst; sisters Rita Haynes, of South Amherst, and Jonna Miller, of Marietta, GA. He was preceded in death by his aunt Hazel Hutchinson. Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, September 13, from 6-8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street, Wellington, where a memorial services will be held on Thursday, beginning at 11 a.m. In Lieu of flowers donations may be directed to the Wellington Boy Scout Troop 414.
