Mildred A. Lyons, age 96, of Greenwich, died Sunday, February 26, 2012 at Willard Mercy Hospital after a short illness. She was born June 3, 1915 in Greenwich, daughter of the late Clarence Ellsworth and Ruth Estella (McLaughlin) Lyons. Mildred was a lifelong Greenwich resident. She graduated in 1933 from Greenwich High School and in 1935 from the Mansfield Business Training School. Mildred worked as an Executive Secretary at Huron County Bank for more than 30 years. She was the oldest surviving member of the Ripley Congregational Church, Greenwich, where she had been a member of the choir most of her life. Mildred also was the church pianist for more than 40 years and organist for 20 years and church clerk for many years. She had been a 4-H advisor for several years. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi, Eta Chapter, a Norwalk business women's society.
She is survived by her sister, Genevieve and Ray Marnach of Los Angeles, California; 2 nieces, Lisa and Mark McMullen and Karen (and Adam Schaechter) Marnach; great niece, April McMullen; cousins, Sheryl Perry and Dale Colvy and Raegen Iler.
Friends may call from 6 ' 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Eastman Funeral Home, 49 West Main St., Greenwich. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Ripley Church, 4130 South Edwards Rd., Greenwich with Pastor Eric Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Edwards Grove Cemetery, Greenwich. Memorials if desired may be given the Ripley Church.
