Obituary

Morris C. Furcron, Jr., a beloved member of the Wellington community, died August 13, 2018 at the age of 90. Moe was born on December 29, 1927 in Wellington to the late Morris and Amy (nee Rucker) Furcron, Sr. He was a 1945 graduate of Wellington High School. Following graduation, Moe proudly enlisted in the US Army 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper where he served in the 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion. Moe was employed at the Sterling Foundry for 43 years and served as the Personnel Manager. Through his work at the foundry he was nominated president of the Lorain County Safety Council and the Lorain County Personnel Council. Also through his work at the foundry he was encouraged to become a police officer for the Village of Wellington. He took several classes and received his state certification and served the police department for 29 years, becoming police chief in 1982 and retiring in1995. He continued his service to the village as the building and zoning inspector until 2015. A prominent figure in Wellington, Moe gave his time and talents to many organizations. He served as president for Well-Help and Kiwanis, where he was vital in the annual nut sale and pancake breakfasts. Moe served two terms for the United Way of Lorain County on the Safety Council, served on the initial board for Main Street Wellington and was a member of the American Legion Post 8. He was accepted as a member of the Masonic Lodge, he became the Worshipful Master, following in his fathers footsteps. Moe was also a member of the Oberlin branch of the NAACP. He was also an active member of the First Congregational UCC in Wellington. Moe enjoyed serving his community and could often be seen driving the Wellington Senior Bus. In his younger years, Moe enjoyed softball. He leaves behind his daughter, Celeste, of Wellington and siblings, Leman Furcron, of Oberlin, Marie Furcron, of Detroit, MI and John Harold Furcron, of Ashtabulah, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty, in 2010; sister, Etta; brothers, Leon, George Howard and James Russell and his son, Matthew. Family and friends will be received on Friday, August 17, from 4-8 p.m at the First Congregational UCC, 140 S. Main St., Wellington and again on Saturday from 9 until the time of services beginning at 10 a.m. with Moe's nephew James Russell "Ted" Furcron officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be directed to either Well-Help, 127 Park Place, Wellington, or the Senior Bus, 115 Willard Memorial Square, Wellington.
