IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nedra Emmalene
(Thompson) Gfell
August 27, 1933 – December 18, 2020
Nedra E. (Thompson) Gfell, 87, of Monroeville, Ohio, is playing the piano again, but now it is truly heavenly music. Her soul took flight on December 18, 2020 at Twilight Gardens Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born on August 27, 1933 in Fremont, Ohio, daughter to the late Curtis Ward and Mabel Bell (Bailey) Thompson. Nedra grew up in Burgoon, Ohio and graduated from Heidelberg University, where she majored in music education.
She met her husband Russell at Firelands Chorus, where he sang, and she played piano. The two celebrated their 57th anniversary this past July. Nedra played piano for band competitions, weddings, funerals, etc. She was a music teacher for many years in Sandusky and had also taught at St. Joseph's in Monroeville, and Monroeville public schools. She taught lessons to many area children helping them learn how to play piano. Nedra also played organ in many, many places including, Norwalk, New London, Bellevue, Sandusky, Clyde, and Milan. Nedra was a tour guide for many years at the Thomas Edison Birthplace in Milan and volunteered with the Monroeville Library at "story time" with children. To say she left an impact would be an understatement.
Survivors include her loving husband of 57 years, Russell Gfell of Monroeville; their children, Julie (Christopher) Kristenak of Toledo, OH and Jennifer (Vincent) Kessler of Norwalk, OH; grandchildren, C.J., Kyla and Vincent Andrew.
