IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Norbert J.
Barman
April 20, 1935 – August 26, 2024
Norbert Joseph Barman, age 89, of Norwalk, passed away on August 26, 2024. He was born April 20, 1935 in Peru Township to Theresa (nee Rossman) and Edward Barman. Norb was a lifelong Huron County resident, his life and legacy deeply interwoven with the community he loved and served.
Norb was a mason by trade, leaving a permanent mark on many homes, offices, schools and churches in the Norwalk area. Norb was co-owner of Barman & Seitz General Contractors, Inc. in the 1960's. In 1972 he went into business for himself, forming Barman Construction, Inc. all while maintaining 2 farms. Norb was the project manager for the St. Paul Convocation Center, committing a full year from Barman Construction to complete the Fr. Harvey Keller gymnasium and Joan C. Camp Performing Arts Auditorium that many of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoy to this day. Norb also developed 3 subdivisions in and near Norwalk; Fairwood, Valley View and Settlement Cove. Norb never really retired. After leaving the construction business he would be seen on St. Paul Church and School campuses from the early morning hours throughout the day doing all varieties of work for the maintenance department.
None of this would have been possible without the love and support of his wife, Sheila (nee Sheppard) whom he married Sept. 11, 1954. Together they raised eight children: Edwin (Jeanie) Barman of Monroeville, Dale (Judie) Barman of Milan, David (Sharon) Barman of Norwalk, Anthony (Antoinette) Barman of Monroeville, Bonita (Richard) Barna of Norwalk, Christopher (Terri) Barman of Norwalk, Kathleen (Paul) Sigsworth of Milan and Dina (John) Lukasko of Norwalk.
Norb is survived by his children, his sister, Delores Kimball, 22 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren with 1 more due soon.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sheila, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage prior to her death in 2014, his son, Darryl in 1955, his parents, sister, Eileen Bores, brothers, Edwin and Robert Barman and his second wife Mary Ott-Barman in April 2024.
