Opal Yvonne Pennington Tompkins, 70, died Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Texas Health Hospital. Opal was born in Elliott County, KY on September 22, 1947 to the late Ollie and Lorene (nee Pruitt) Spencer. She lived in the Wellington for over twenty-five years before moving to Florida and then Texas. A nurse, Opal worked at Golden Acres Nursing Home and Weber Health Care before retiring. She lovingly made scrapbooks for her family and enjoyed fishing as a way to spend time with her late husband, Bill. Her family and grandchildren were the most important things in her life. Survivors include her daughters, Sandy (Tim) Wine, of Sullivan and Billie Jo (Mark Maupin) Stoddard, of Arlington, TX; grandchildren, Megan, Ashley, Angel, Savanna and Brandon and 4 great grandchildren Landen, Chase, Mason and Macy. Siblings, Margery(Morris) Hinton, Lawrence (Nyiokae) Spencer and Sterling (Louise) Spencer. Opal was preceded in death in 1996 by her husband, Billie Joe Pennington and grandchild, Carly Wine. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington, where funeral services will be Saturday at 10 am.
