Orra J. Briggs, age 83, of Delphi, died Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Mercy Hospital, Willard after an apparent heart attack. He was born May 16, 1927 in Shiloh, son of the late Ora L. and Mary Ann (Burgraff) Briggs. Orra lived in Plymouth for several years and many years in Delphi. Orra served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a truck driver for W.L. Mead in Norwalk, worked at Akron Standard Mold in Greenwich for many years and had been a delivery driver for the Doggie Lodge in Norwalk until he retired. Orra was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall of Shelby. He enjoyed his family, farming, and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis (Black) Briggs; his children, Gloria Bissell of New Haven, Vicki (Paul) Casciere of Safety Harbor, Florida, Bruce Briggs of Delphi, Teresa (Mike) Waters of Michigan; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 sister and 4 brothers and his son-in-law, Tom Bissell.
A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Wittnesses, 37 Cline St., Norwalk.
