Otto Geist, Jr., age 61, of New London, died Sunday, January 6, 2013 at his home. He was born April 9, 1951 in Oberlin, son of the late Otto T. and Blanche (Green) Geist, Sr. He was a lifelong resident of New London. Otto was a 1970 graduate of New London High School/Ehove Career Center in the Ag Mechanic program. He worked at the Ford Motor Co. in Lorain for 36 years, retiring in 2006. Otto then worked for McClaflin Farms. He was a lieutenant on the Rochester Fire Dept, a member of the Wellington Eagles 2051, New London Knights of Columbus Our Lady of Lourdes, a member of the Community of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Nova and the Morning Breakfast Club in New London at the Wildcat Café. Otto enjoyed farming and was a farmer at heart.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sandy (Holmer) Geist, whom he married December 1, 1972; his children, Jill (Oliver) Dettman of Westland, Michigan, Teri (Dan) DiVincenzo of Parma and Will (Jewel) Geist of Old Brooklyn; 3 grandchildren, Maddison and Ellery Roberts, Cooper Dettman; brother, Sid (Gail) Geist of New London; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 1-3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 10 at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Community of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 240 State Route 511, Nova, Ohio with Father Thomas Gilles and Father John Mullee officiating.
