Patrick Homer Messersmith, 98, of Wellington, died Thursday, August 1, 2024, in Avon Lake under hospice care. A son of the late Lloyd Homer and Minnie Olive (nee Moore) Messersmith, Patrick was born on March 17, 1926, in Linn, Missouri. He graduated from high school in Illinois and then proudly joined the Army Air Corps during World War II. Patrick served in the Pacific Theater on B-29 bomber crews. Later, he attended Bliss College in Columbus and earned his associate's degree in accounting and business management. Formerly a resident of Avon Lake, Patrick settled in Wellington in 1994.
As a business manager, Patrick worked for many years at Sperry Marine in Cleveland. Patrick was a member of the Wellington Eagles and had attended New Life Assembly of God in Wellington.
He enjoyed sports – particularly Cleveland baseball and football and OSU football. Patrick loved cars and took great pride in polishing and taking care of them.
Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Loretta (nee Ward); children, Cynthia Lynn (Tom) Ebenger, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Patti Jo Rodgers, of Wellington, Patrick Mark (Elaine) Messersmith, of Dublin, Matt Lloyd (Mark Haker) Messersmith, of Columbus; 6 stepchildren; 7 grandchildren; 14 step grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren with another expected soon. Patrick was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan, in 1992; second wife, Marjorie, in 2008 and 2 stepdaughters.
