Pauline "Polly" Markel, 74, of Fredericktown, died Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. Born on November 23, 1942 in Lorain, she was the daughter of the late James and Irene (nee Aslakson) McCowan. Polly attended Avon Lake High School and has lived in Fredericktown for the past 13 years. Polly retired from Forest City Technologies and then began working at Finishing Touch Salon in Mount Vernon where she made many lifelong friendships. She was an avid gardener and loved her log home in woods where she was surrounded by her many wonderful neighbors. Polly enjoyed traveling with her husband especially to the mountains of east Tennessee and North Carolina. She was an NFL and college football fan and enjoyed watching her favorite teams the Denver Broncos and University of Tennessee. Polly will be remembered for her cooking, especially her baking and her willingness to try new recipes. Polly loved her pets and most of all cherished time spent with family especially her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Danny Markel; children Renee (Scott) Taney, of Houston TX, Rachel Markel, of Miami Fl, and Jason Markel, of Ashland; grandchildren Jill (Sean)Russell, Richard (Sasha)Stashak, Kaleigh, Treveor, Ellie, Aaron, and Aiden Markel; great grandchildren Remington and Nicholas Stashak; and a brother Alan McCowan of TN. Polly was preceded in death by her son Joseph and her sister Wilma. Friends and family will be received on Monday, October 2, 2017 from 10 a.m. until the time of services beginning at 11 a.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main St, Wellington.
