Pauline H. Pickering Orchard, 97, of Lima, died Tuesday morning, August 2, 2016 at Primrose Retirement Community. Born on October 21, 1918 in Spencerville to the late Vernon and Ruth (nee Walther) Hager, Pauline grew up in the Lima area and was a graduate of Lima High School. Pauline worked for Westinghouse in Lima during the war. In October of 1945 she married Lewis Pickering. In the early 60's they moved their family to Buffalo, NY, and then to Milan. While in Milan, Pauline worked as a secretary with the Milan School systems. Pauline and her family again relocated to Roanoke VA, where she spent several years. Later in life she and her husband moved to New London to be close to their son and grandchildren. After Lewis' death Pauline moved back home to Lima where she reconnected with Russell Orchard whom she later married. Pauline was an independent spirit; she enjoyed traveling and had seen most of the country throughout her life. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved to play bridge. Survivors include her son Joel (Barbara) Pickering, of New London; grandsons Vernon (Keri) Pickering, of Wellington, Philip (Stephanie) and Brian Pickering both of New London; great-grandchildren Adelle, Mallory, Kalynne, Claire, Peyton, and Beau; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her husbands Lewis Pickering, and Russell Orchard, and her brother Rollen Hager. Friends and family will be received on Friday, August 5, from 4-8 p.m. at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main Street, New London, 44851, and again on Saturday from 10 until the time of services beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Doug Lang officiating. Burial will follow at Grove Street Cemetery, New London. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pauline's memory may be directed to St. Rita's Hospice, 959 W. North St, Lima, 45805.
