IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Peter Reighley
Avery
February 13, 1945 – February 18, 2025
Peter Reighley Avery went home to be with Jesus in the early morning hours of February 18, 2025, with his loving wife Delores and his longtime caregiver Tessa Kasper by his side. He was born Peter Renaldo Reighley in New London, Ohio. His biological mother, Treva Marie Avery Reighley, died hours after his birth on February 13, 1945. Peter was raised by his loving parents, Treva's brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Lydia Avery, in Wellington, Ohio.
Following his high school graduation in 1963, he attended Freeman Junior College in Freeman, South Dakota, for one year and Columbia Bible College for three years. During a "gap" year, Peter was drafted into the Vietnam War where he served his country dutifully with the 101st Airborne Division and was a Bronze Star award recipient.
Peter returned home to Wellington in the early 1970's and worked for Hinton POV Products where he met Delores. They were married on August 7, 1971, and settled in Wellington where they raised their three children. Peter retired from Willoway Nurseries in Avon, Ohio, after 25 years of service.
He was a faithful servant of God and a role model for his family. Peter enjoyed western novels, gardening, and tending to his lawn and landscaping. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Cleveland sports fan, who also loved to attend every event or competition his kids and grandkids participated in. Peter made a friend anywhere he went and was always willing to lend a hand or lift anyone up in prayer. He will be dearly missed.
Peter is survived by his wife Delores, a son Peter (Connie) Avery, two daughters, Melissa (Kyle) Roberts and Kendra (Michael) Prindle, seven grandchildren: Roxanne Avery, Brian Clements, Lydia Roberts, Hannah Roberts, Addison Prindle, Melayna Prindle, and Kaitlynn Prindle; five great grandchildren: Cambria and Morgan Avery, Liam Roberts, and Jaxon and Phillip Radcliff; and two siblings Lester (Jean) Avery and Esther (Bernard) Windmiller and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Jane Sweda, Kenneth U. Avery, Lucia Jenkins, Ervina Albertson, Sandra Finch, and Floyd Reighley.
Friends and family will be received on Saturday, February 22, from 12 p.m. until the time of services beginning at 2 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street, Wellington. A private family burial will take place at a later date at the Ohio Western Reserve national Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be shared online at www.norton-eastmanfuneralhome.com.
