Phil Albert Schneiter, 74, of Nova, died unexpectedly on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk. He was born March 19, 1937, in New London and lived most of his life in Nova.
He was a 1955 graduate of New London High School. Phil was a farmer and was passionate about raising his crops and livestock and tinkering with his tractors. Phil was a director for the Lorain Medina Rural Electric since 1987, as well as the Nova Telephone Company and Nova Farmers Supply, and the Ashland Farm Bureau. He proudly volunteered many years as a fireman for the Ruggles-Troy Volunteer Fire Department, and served in the U.S. Army and National Guard. He helped build and served as a grounds keeper at Rolling Acres Golf Course.
Phil was a member of the Nova United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the New London and Ashland Eagles, the Lagrange Engine Club along with the Kelley's Island VFW. Phil and his wife Jan own several cottages on Kelley's Island and cherished his time spent there with friends and family.
Survivors include the love of his life, his wife of 52 years, Jan; children, Susie (Bob) Stanfield of Nova and Randy (Niki) Schneiter of Nova; grandchildren, Crystal, Diana, Brent, Tabitha, Angel, Brandy and Tanya; 10 great grandchildren and 2 on the way; mother, Hazel Schneiter of New London and siblings, Paul (Pam) Schneiter, Ronald (Rose Mary) Schneiter, Lois J. (Joe) Baltes, Dale (Donna) Schneiter and Vicki (Kevin) Missler. Phil was preceded in death by his father, Albert A. Schneiter
Visitation will held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main Street, New London where a service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday with Brother Finkbone officiating. Burial will follow at Nova Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be made in Phil's name to Kelley's Island Historical Society, American Heart Association, and the Nova United Methodist Church.
