Phyllis C. Brandt Schindler, 93 and a half, of Wellington, died Friday, October 10, 2025 at home with her family by her side. Born on January 12, 1932 in Lafayette, she was the daughter of the late Ortho and Bernadine (nee Ridinger) Cotner. Phyllis grew up in Lafayette and graduated from Lafayette High School.
Trained as a secretary, Phyllis took a job at Lafayette High School and it was there she met Paul Brandt who was a teacher. They were married and eventually made their way back to Paul's hometown of Pittsfield. Phyllis was an active member of the Pittsfield Community Church and was very involved with the Women's Fellowship. She was also a member of the Town and Country. Phyllis loved to sew, making clothes and quilts by hand. She also collected dolls. Most of all Phyllis cherished time spent with her family and was instrumental in bringing everyone together for family reunions.
Survivors include her daughters, Tari Diedrick, of Wakeman, Joni (Scott) Hendricks, of Canton, and Kathi (David) Bockmore, of Wellington; grandchildren, Eva (Chad) Frank, Kevin (Lauren) Diedrick, Steven (Amanda) Diedrick, Eric (Leah) Hendricks, Rebecca (Jeff) Sauline, Joseph (Julie) Bockmore, Jordan (Danielle) Bockmore, Juliann Arthur, and Justin (Ashley) Bockmore; 20 great grandchildren with 1 on the way; and a sister Karen Stoodt, of Cridersville. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Paul Brandt; her second husband, Frank Schindler; and sisters, Marcia Arend and Cheryl Cotner.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday, October 16, from 4-7 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main St, Wellington. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 17, at the Pittsfield Community Church, 17026 State Rt 58, Wellington beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Pittsfield East Cemetery. Donations in Phyllis' memory may be directed to either the Church, or to the Hospice of the Western Reserve at www.hospicewr.org.
