Obituary

Phyllis Kathleen McQuaid, 84, of Wellington, died unexpectedly on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at MetroHealth Systems in Cleveland. Born in Fairview, WV on August 12, 1925 to the late Carl and Dorothy (nee Darry) Barr; Phyllis graduated from Fairview High School in 1943. In 1951, she moved to Wellington. Phyllis worked in the kitchen of the Wellington and Oberlin Hospitals. She spent her time helping her husband manage Jack's Sohio Service Station. She was a member of the Lady Shriners and the First United Methodist Church of Wellington and always enjoyed having lunch with the ladies after church. Other activities she enjoyed were cooking, traveling, watching the Cleveland Indians, Jim Thome, and bowling at Strike Out Lanes. Phyllis also loved spending time with her family. Survivors include her children, Terry (Georgia) McQuaid, Nancy Thomas and Gary (Debra) Fugitt; 9 grandchildren, including grandson, Todd (Kelli) McQuaid and granddaughter, Whitney (Danny) Wilson, locally; many great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. Phyllis was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Jack; son, Gary Lynn; sister, Martha Hurd and son-in-law, Jimmy Thomas. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 23 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 -8:00 p.m. with a Shriners service at 7:45 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Lea Mahan officiating. Donations in memory of Phyllis may be directed to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 or the First United Methodist Church Steeple Fund, 127 Park Place, Wellington, OH 44090.
