Obituary

Phyllis Jean Mosher, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on January 2, 2025, at home in Wellington, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on July 15, 1940, in Hardy, Kentucky, to the late Lacy and Virginia Blackburn (nee Childers), Phyllis lived a life marked by devotion, service, and an unyielding spirit of generosity and warmth.

Phyllis's early years were shaped by the close-knit community of Hardy, a coal mining camp where family roots ran deep and the lifelong value of feeding whoever walked through your front door was forged.

Around the age of 13, her family relocated to Wellington, Ohio, where she flourished and graduated from Wellington High School in 1958. Shortly after, she and her high school sweetheart, Ronald Mosher, eloped to Monroe, Michigan, embarking on a remarkable marriage that spanned more than 66 years.

Phyllis found purpose and connection through her career, starting as a switchboard operator with General Telephone and advancing to customer service roles with GTE and later Verizon. Her professional journey continued with a second career at First Merit Bank, where her warmth and steadfast work ethic left an indelible mark.

A lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Wellington, Phyllis embodied the church's values of faith, service, and community. Her dedication extended to the Wellington School Board, where she served for more than two decades, including a term as president, and to the Lorain County Joint Vocational School (JVS) School Board, championing education and student success.

Phyllis's warm and vibrant personality shone through in her passions. She bowled in multiple leagues, volunteered with the Wellington Band Boosters— running the donut booth at the Lorain County Fair—and was a devoted Reading Mother and Grandmother at Westwood Elementary.

Her adventurous spirit took her to Hawaii twice, and her love of music was reflected in her admiration for Elvis Presley and Neil Diamond. Yet, her heart always found its way back to Hardy, Kentucky, where visits with her parents, affectionately known as MaMaw and PaPaw, brought her profound joy.

Phyllis is survived by her devoted husband, Ronald Mosher of Wellington; her children, Judy (Dave) Nunez of Norwalk, Lisa (Donnie) Bliss of Wellington, and Rhonda (Andrew) Lara of Wellington; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her siblings Larry and Edward Blackburn. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jimmy and Robert Blackburn.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington, Ohio. Funeral services will follow on Tuesday, January 7, at 11 a.m., also at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, with Rev. Hyeran Yu officiating. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington.
