Phyllis Jean Upton Lyons, 92, of Wellington, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2018 at Mercy Allen Hospital in Oberlin. She was born on August 15, 1925 to the late Frank and Mary Elizabeth (nee Filtness) Upton in New London. She grew up in the New London/Rochester area and graduated from New London High School in 1943. Phyllis moved to Wellington in the 60's, where she spent the majority of her working career at Wellington Hospital in medical records. She began in 1966, retiring in 1989 from the hospital. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Wellington, and she enjoyed traveling to Florida in the winter, sewing, and watercolor painting. Survivors include her nephews, Mark Ziegler and Kyle Ziegler both of Wellington, and her niece Marlene Hamilton of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her husband Mark Lyons and her sister Dorothy Upton Ziegler-Tegtmeyer. A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 1:00 PM, March 15, 2018 at Grove Street Cemetery in New London with Rev. Tom Alexander officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Samaritan's Purse (PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607).
