Obituary

Priscilla Sue (Walker) Bidlake was born Saturday, December 7, 1946, only a few short years after a date that would "live in infamy". She passed Tuesday, July 31, 2018, but her memory and legacy will also be remembered as significant by all those whose lives were touched by hers. She was born and raised with an appreciation for hard work, a love of family, and foundation of integrity. Her formative years were spent working on the family farm in Wellington alongside her loving parents, "Corb" and Dorothy, as well as her 3 siblings Iva, Terry, and Marie, showing a prized cow or lamb for 4-H at her much beloved Lorain County Fair, and spending time with her expansive extended family settled all along Rt. 58 from Pittsfield to Wellington. She excelled in school, was known for her sense of humor, and delved voraciously into reading books which would become a life-long passion. It didn't take long for this tenacious and funny young girl to grow up to get married to her jr. high school sweetheart and practice husband of 19 years, Dave, with whom she had two wonderful daughters, Kelli and Shea. While managing her family, she attended the Lorain County Community College in the mid-70's. She would often quote her daddy who said, "Only the educated are free." And that it did, because she went on to earn her Medic Certification and became the first female paramedic in Lorain County. "PC", as she was known by many, went on to help establish the SCLAD (South Lorain County Ambulance District) in the late 70's, bringing much needed advanced life support and first responder services to southern Lorain County. In 1990, Priscilla went on to join the team at LifeCare Ambulance were she became the supervisor over the Lorain division and stayed for over 25 years. She was not just a leader within the organization but a mentor and instructor to literally hundreds of medics over the course of several decades. She also worked in the Education Department in her "retirement" and stayed on their board to help shape the future of the organization and its services. She was also know as a fair, but expectant boss, she was direct, but compassionate, and dedicated to her work and medics at one of the best EMS organizations in the county. Priscilla also met and was smitten with her husband John, of 30 years, married in 1988. Best friends and true partners, they spent many of those years supporting one another's careers, adding countless new dogs to the mix ( and rescuing many of those without a home), and dozens of adventures camping in the woods as far as South Dakota to the sites at Findley State Park. John lovingly journeyed with her as well, through difficult times, but it only made them stronger. Lastly, they also became grandparents to Rhett, Melany, Reed, Cait, and Jack and great-grandparents to Xzavier, Riley, Arlo, and Everly that filled their days with great joy, antics, and hope. Priscilla was often heard exclaiming "Presentation! Presentation! Presentation!" in preparation for upcoming holiday meals or just in reference to any opportunity to gather the family over a table full of warm comfort foods, freshly squeezed lemonade, and decadent desserts. She loved trying out a new recipe, but mostly, she just loved getting together with family to create special memories for everyone. When she wasn't cooking, she could be found escavating the nearest Dollar Bin at Target for anything that lit up, loading up on new table linens, drinking a Coca-Cola over ice, turning the volume up on the radio dial to listen to some good ol' fashioned Rock-n-Roll, or reading the latest Stephen King novel. She was thoughtful, creative, compassionate, dedicated, an advocate, visionary, a mentor, wife, mom, sister, daughter, friend, teacher, a therapist, and so much more. Priscilla is survived by her husband and best friend, John Bidlake, her mother Dorothy Walker, daughter Shea (Crawford) Alltmont, brother Terry Walker (Donna), sister Iva Walker, practice husband Dave Crawford (Pam), her four-legged kids, Law and Reich, her wonderful grandchildren Rhett Hall (Kristen Stump), Melany Hall Dolan (Sean Dolan), Reed Hall, Cait Alltmont, Jack Alltmont, and very much loved great-grand children Zxavier Hall, Riley Dolan, Arlo Dolan, and Everly Dolan. She was preceded in death by her father John Corbett "Corb" Walker, daughter Kelli (Crawford) Hall, and sister, Marie Casper (Neil). A celebration of Priscilla's life will be held on Monday, August 13, 2018 from Noon to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the New Russia Township Hall at 46330 Butternut Ridge Road, Oberlin, OH 44074 where friends and family are welcome to share stories and extend their condolences.
