IN LOVING MEMORY OF
R. Paul
Mayo
June 23, 1934 – September 5, 2025
Rev. R. Paul Mayo, 91, of Wellington went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 5, 2025, from Mercy New Life Hospice, Lorain. He was born June 23, 1934, in Brookville, PA to the late Ethel E. (Allhouse) and Wade R. Mayo. He was born again spiritually at age 14 when he placed his faith in the complete work of Jesus Christ for his salvation. Paul was a 1952 graduate of LaGrange High School and a 1955 graduate of Practical Bible Training School in New York. In 1954 he married his life-long love and faithful helpmate, Mary Lou. He devoted over 50 years to ministry, starting a church in Berlin Heights, Ohio, pastoring churches in Kewanna and Delphi, Indiana; as well as Sunbury, Lorain, and LaGrange, Ohio. Mentoring and encouraging others to be faithful in ministry gave him special joy. He served six years as Supervisor of Adoptions for Baptist Children's Home and Family Ministries of Ohio with great compassion for the fatherless. Rev. Mayo was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wellington. He enjoyed singing with the family, playing his harmonica, making friends, traveling and interacting with family, especially outdoors— hiking, camping, fishing, spotting deer and spectacular scenery. He enjoyed history and had trouble passing any memorial sign along the road without stopping to investigate.
Rev. Mayo is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mary Lou (Boise) Mayo whom he married June 19, 1954; four children, Linda (Del) Mohler of Grimes, IA, Rachel (Jim) Chambers of Cedarville, OH, Rebecca (Larry) Starett of Chesterton, IN, and Tim Mayo of Wakeman; 17 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Devere and Dean Mayo; grandson, Tyler Mayo.
Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 6-8 PM at the Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main St, Wellington and Wednesday, September 10, 2025, from 10 am until the time of the service at 11 am at the First Baptist Church of Wellington, 125 Grand Ave, Wellington, Ohio 44090.
