Ralph Paxton, age 94, of Greenwich, died Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Willard Mercy Hospital after a short illness. He was born October 24, 1916 in Greenwich Twp., son of the late James and Rozetta (Carpenter) Paxton. Ralph was a lifelong resident of Greenwich Twp. He was a 1938 graduate of Norwalk High School. Ralph had worked at the former Union Malleable in Ashland for several years, then at the Fate Root Heath Co. in Plymouth, at the Sanders Co. in Greenwich and then owned and operated Paxton Machinery from 1952 until he retired at age 65. He attended the Ripley Church, Greenwich. Ralph was a former member of the Greenwich Grange, a member of the Shelby Lodge #350 F&AM. He also was the former Sunday school superintendent at the Greenwich United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Martha (Bish) Paxton, whom he married August 31, 1940; his children, Lynn M. (Dean) Hord of Greenwich, Larry (Cathy) Paxton of Ashland, Jim (Becky) Paxton of Glendale, Arizona; 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Eugene Paxton, his sister, Esther Cain, his brothers, Donald and Orrville Paxton.
Friends may call from 6 '8 p.m. Friday, February 18, 2011 and from 1 pm. until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Eastman Funeral Home, 49 West Main St., Greenwich with Pastor Dave Cobb officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwich Greenlawn Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be given to the family in care of the funeral home.
