Raymond Vearl Scheerer, Jr, 82 of New London died December 27, 2013 after a lengthy illness. He was born on May 4, 1931 in Shelby, Ohio to the late Miriam and Raymond Vearl Scheerer, Sr.
Ray graduated from Shelby High School and Kent State University spending his career as a high school teacher, principal of Townsend Jr. High and Western Reserve High Schools and retired as a School Finance, Area Transportation Coordinator with the State Board of Education. Ray belonged to the Norwalk Kiwanis, was a U.S. Army Veteran and an active member of his church, the New London United Methodist Church. He was a true sports fan following the Cleveland Browns, Indians and Cavaliers. He loved being with his family, especially grandchildren and great grandchildren and eating ice cream, peanut butter and his wife's cookies.
He is survived by his beloved wife Bonnie (Fishburn) Scheerer; children Jerry (Maggie) Scheerer, Corpus Christi, TX; Lynn (Dave) Spanski, Vermilion, OH; Mike (Kathy) Scheerer, Olmsted Falls, OH; John (Marsha) Scheerer, Norwalk, OH; Tim (Kathleen) Scheerer, Cleveland, OH; grandchildren Dustin (Sabrina), Mary, Caleb, Kent (Jenna), Kyle (Zia Sirabella), Kelsey, Sara, Matthew, Lauren and Austin Scheerer; great grandchildren Sydney, Sofia, David and Grant Scheerer; sister Marti (Bob) Andersen; brother Jim (Carol) Scheerer and brother-in-law Rube Mohr. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by sisters Lois Baehr, Mary Bonecutter and Leola Mohr.
Special thanks to Ray and Bonnie's many home healthcare aides, neighbors and friends who have helped Ray through many years of his declining health.
A memorial service will be held January 12, 2014, 2:00 pm at the New London United Methodist Church, 58 East Main St., New London.
