Col. Reginald B. Fowkes, Retired, 72, of Wakeman, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk after a short illness. He was born in Elyria on January 4, 1938, son of the late Reginald and Lucille (nee Botamer) Fowkes.
Reginald graduated from Elyria High School in 1955, Bowling Green State University in 1958 where he was a Phi Kappa Tau and the University of Alabama in 1968. He entered the United States Army after graduating from Bowling Green and was commissioned a Lieutenant. His career included many U.S. posts, including the Pentagon in Washington D.C., Germany, France, England and his final station in Columbus at DCSC. His commands included Delta Co. 1st BN 67th AR of the 2nd AD, 1st support BN of the 1st Infantry Division Forward in Goeppingen, Germany and he finished his career as the Deputy Commander of DCSC. Reginald also served two tours of duty in Vietnam. After retiring from the military he worked for the Eaton Corporation as a Director of Manufacturing until his retirement in 1992. In 1992 he and his wife returned to their family farm in New London, Ohio.
He enjoyed his time with special friends he met in Cardiac Rehab and square dancing with Firelands Area Dance Squares (FADS).
Reginald is survived by his spouse, Ann (nee Hofstatter); son, Randy Fowkes of Columbus, Ohio and daughter, Christine (Kevin Smith) Fowkes of Columbus, Ohio. He is also survived by his siblings, Tom (Carol) Fowkes of Avon Lake, Ohio, Ron Fowkes of Dayton, Ohio and Kate Fowkes of Melbourne, Florida. Reginald was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judy Fowkes.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 18th at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main Street, New London.
