Rex R. Barber, age 54, of New London, died Thursday evening, April 17, 2008 at the Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky; after an illness of 7 months.
Rex was born June 5, 1953 in Norwalk, Ohio. He was a 1971 graduate of New London High School. After high school he served in the U.S. Army. He was a truck driver; starting with Growers Chemical in Milan, where he drove until 1983. He started driving for Norwalk Furniture in 1983.
Rex was a member of the New London Eagles #2869, the New London American Legion Broome-Wood Post #292 and the Second Baptist Church of New London. He was an avid golfer, Browns and Ohio State fan; and the best Papa and Grandpa in the world.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry (Burleson) Barber; a daughter, Danielle Barber Sanders of New London; and a son, Raymond (Holly) Barber of New London; 4 granddaughters, Kelsee, Maci, Kotiana and Nadia; his father, Howard G. Barber of Texas; 5 sisters, Venice (Kent) Swigart of Wooster, Patti (Randy) Goff of Texas, Lori Daisy of Maryland, Cheri (Steve) Norris and Mary Lou Barber all of Texas; a brother, Skip Barber of Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Powery and a brother, Bill Barber.
Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday, April 20, 2008 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London, where funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 21, 2008. Pastor Tina Hobbs and Pastor Ted Mason will officiate and burial will follow in Clarksfield Methodist Cemetery.
