Richard D. Doney, Sr., 92, of Norwalk, passed away Monday evening, July 4, 2022, at Admiral's Pointe Nursing Home in Huron.

Richard was born on April 9, 1930, in Hartland Township, OH to the late Christopher and Luenna (Grenzebach) Doney.

Richard graduated from Norwalk High School in 1948 and proudly served his country during the Korean War as a member of the United States Army. He was a truck driver for 45 years working for various companies over the course of his career. Richard was a life member of the Norwalk VFW. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, remodeling his home, listening to country music, and traveling. Richard's greatest pride and joy was his family.

Richard is survived by his companion of 23 years, Phyllis Perry; 5 children, Richard D. (Deborah Baker) Doney, Jr. of Burgoon, OH, Gary (Rebecca Mullins) Doney of Huron, OH, Gail (Dennis) Witter of Norwalk, OH, Lisa Lau of Norwalk, OH, and Greg Doney of Marietta, GA; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer, Adam, Joseph, Emily, Christopher, and Cody, and 3 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Betty Doney; stepfather, George Gaag; brother, Carl Doney; half-brother, Glenn Gaag and half-sister, Irene Delamater.

A private family graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery. Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
