Richard Henry Johannsen, 82, of Wakeman, died Thursday, October 17, 2024 at home, surrounded by his family. Born on February 19, 1942, in Oberlin, he was the son of the late Albert and Sarah (nee Catlin) Johannsen. Richard was a 1960 graduate of Firelands High School.

Along with his brother Bob and son Neil, Richard was a life long farmer, retiring in 2022. Always community minded, he had served on the Huron Landmark (now Sunrise) Board of Directors for 27 years, was a Florence Township trustee for 16 years, and served on the Citizens Ambulance Board for 16 years as well.

Richard is survived by his loving wife Jane (nee Donaldson); sons, Richard A. (Erin) and Neil (Misty) Johannsen; 5 grandchildren, Cassidy, Randi, Samantha, Vivianne, and Jesse; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert (Pat) Johannsen.

Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, October 22, from 4-7 p.m. at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St, New London, where services will be held on Wednesday, beginning at 10 a.m. burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Berlin Heights. Rev. Bill Kopas will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Citizens Ambulance, 19 Railroad St, PO Box 224, Wakeman, OH 44889.
