Richard B. 'Dick' Lautzenhiser, of Nova, died May 25, 2012 at this home. He was born on February 14, 1940 to Leo and Lisabeth (Teger) Lautzenhiser in Ashland. At the age of 5 Dick moved to Ruggles. He graduated from Ruggles Troy High School in 1958. At age 16 he joined the RTVFD as a 'junior firefighter' retiring in 1992 from Ruggles Troy Volunteer Fire Department as Assistant Chief due to a disability. Also in 1958, Dick joined the Air National Guard 179th in Mansfield where he retired after serving 25 years.
Dick worked for the Ashland County Sheriffs Office as a specialty deputy for over 20 years.
He was a member of the Nova United Methodist Church. Richard was a charter member of the former Ashland County Arson Task Force. A 23 year member of the F&AM #151 Ashland, a 20 years member and Past Patron of the Garfield Chapter #324 O.E.S., the Ashland Royal Court #42 Order of Amaranth, the High Twelve Club in Lake Placid, FL where he served as Past President. And the Ashland Harry Higgins Post #88 American Legion.
In 1960 he married Annette Naylor and had three daughters; Lora (Jeff) Thompson, Michelle Black, Christine (Larry) Booth; 7 grandchildren, Brittany & J.R. Thompson, Zach Black, Cierra Zeigler, Ethan & Noath Booth; 1 step grandchildren, Cassie Booth; 5 step great grandchildren, Faith, Ruth and Phoenix Rex, and Emma and Hope Engle. In 1989 he married Mary Jane Cooner and has 3 step sons, Randy (Beth), Rod (Peg) and Ray (Connie) Jackenheimer; 2 granddaughters, Katie and Jessica Jackenheimer. And Eric Rex, and Amber Engle. He is also survived by a brother, Tom Lautzenhiser of Ohio.
Friends and family may call on Thursday, May 31 from 6-8 p.m. a Masonic service will begin at 7:45 p.m. at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bob Bloomquist officiating. Interment will follow at Ashland County Memorial Park with military rites with Ashland Veterans Honor Guard. The family requests donations to the funeral home.
