Richard Clyde Mitchell was born to George Walter Mitchell and Dorothy Hein Mitchell in Chagrin Falls, Ohio on January 22, 1941. Dick (his uncle being his namesake) served in the Army as a MP in Korea post war. Upon discharge, he enjoyed local racing in his '62 Impala at the Thompson Drag Raceway. Richard lived the lifestyle as an authentic 60's hippie. He was passionate about music, playing bass guitar in several bands over the years such as country music for Rag & Rose, 50's style for Last Generation, country/rock mix with Bone Daddy, and he toured around the country with the Jimmy Ley Blues Band. Richard was very artistically talented. He enjoyed making guitars and woodworking which included carving canes and creating wood pieces for display. He loved drawing and photographing nature.
Richard died May 20, 2022 due to health complications attributed to his advanced age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents George & Dorothy Mitchell. He is survived by his three brothers: Donald R. Mitchell of N. Hollywood, California, Kenneth G. Mitchell of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and Douglas Mitchell of Tampa, Florida. Left to hold his memories are his children: Richard W. Mitchell, KellySue Mitchell, Nancy (Michael) Arnett, Angela (John) Mitchell, and Sean (Donna) Mitchell - all residing in NE Ohio. Also surviving Richard are his precious grandchildren: Noelle (Joe) Pratt, Bret (Joan) Colombo, Katelyn Sieker, Anthony Dec, Hannah (Corey) Boyer, Joseph (Ashley) Dec, Kazimer Dec, Melanie Mitchell and Karalyn Mitchell. He also leaves behind a host of many many great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather for a memorial at The Risley Agricultural Center in 'A Gathering' barn located at 5220 Root Rd. Spencer. Ohio at 1:30pm on Sat. June 4. 2022. Richard will be laid to rest at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville OH, on June 8 at 1:30.
Richard will be missed. Dad - We love you... God be with you 'til we meet again.
