Obituary

Richard Dean Sloan, age 80, of Ripley Twp., died Sunday, June 10, 2007 at his home. Mr. Sloan was born June 23, 1926 in Ripley Twp., son of the late Elzie Edgar & Edith Florence (Young) Sloan. He was life long resident of Ripley Township and has compiled a history of the township. He graduated in 1944 from Greenwich High School and served in the U.S. Navy, Submarine Service during WWII. Mr.Sloan was manager of Willard United Bank for 21 years. He owned and operated R.D. Sloan Insurance Agency, Greenwich for 16 years. He was involved with the Boy Scouts of America for 18 years. He attended the Ripley Church, Greenwich. Mr. Sloan was a bible study leader at Hillside Acres Nursing Home in Willard for over 20 years. He also lead a men's bible study at his home for over 15 years. He was an adult Sunday School teacher off and on for 20 years, he just finished designing and teaching a course on the Holy Spirit. He was a member of the sons of the American Revolution, the society of Civil War Families of Ohio, Kent Family Historical Society, Kent, England and Wayne County Genealogical Society, Wayne County, WV. He enjoyed his family. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Florene Griffith Sloan; a daughter, Jennie (Bob) Grose of Willard; a son, Christopher M. (Penny) Sloan of Willard; 8 grandchildren; 2 step sons, Yancy K. (Suzanne) Toney of Bexley, Ohio and Keith E. (Jodi) Toney of Cumming, Georgia. He was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur E. Sloan in 1996 and step father, Floyd G. Cole. Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at the Ripley Church, 4130 S. Edwards Road, Greenwich, where funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2007. Pastor David Cobb and Pastor Bob Hudberg will officiate and burial will follow in Edwards Grove Cemetery, Greenwich. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, Firelands Chapter, P.O. Box 835, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 or the Ripley Church. Eastman Funeral Home, Greenwich is in charge of arrangements
