Richard D. 'Dick' Snapp, 80, of Ashland, died unexpectedly Thursday, November 3, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Greenwich and lived there until moving to Ashland in 1982.
Dick was a 1949 graduate of Greenwich High School and attended the OSU college of Agriculture. He served in the Naval Reserves in the 1950's. Dick worked at General Motors in Ontario for 36 years before he retired and also farmed for many years.
He was a member of the American Legion Harry Higgins Post 88 in Ashland. One of his greatest joys was spending the last several winters in Florida. Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a NASCAR fan and liked watching truck and tractor pulls.
Survivors include his daughters, Kimberly (John) Morrow of Norwalk, Cheryl (Randy) Hord of Willard and Rhonda (Chad) McClintock of Greenwich; grandchildren, Tiffany (Jeff) Lymer, Brittany Comeau, Arielle Hord and Aimee (Jason) Poth; great-grandchildren, Mason and Morgan Lymer; sister, Danna Dent of Paw Paw, Michigan; nieces, Susan Rhodes; nephew, Scott Dent; one great niece and two great nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, November 6 at Eastman Funeral Home, 49 W. Main St., Greenwich where a service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday with Pastor Bob Hudberg officiating. Because Dick was such an avid reader, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Greenwich Public Library.
