Obituary

Robert G. "Bump" Howell, 66, of Wellington, Ohio passed away on February 11, 2021 at the Cleveland Clinic after an unexpected health episode.  He was born on September 18, 1954 in Martin, Kentucky to the late Hubert and Georgia (Davidson) Howell.  Bump was a 1972 Willard High School graduate.  He also attended Alice Lloyd College where he was a member of the Eagles basketball team.

Bump's witty sense of humor, zest for life, love for his family and hard-nosed work ethic, earned him many friends, and the endearing love and respect of all who knew him.  He enjoyed playing softball, volleyball, and was passionate about all things Sasquatch, and hunting mushrooms (morels).  He lived life fearlessly, and accordingly, had an appreciation for "Bridge Day" in West Virginia, a cold beer (or beers) with friends, rooting for the Browns, trips down the open road in his car, any kind of yard work, and truly cherished time with his grandchildren.

Bump was a hard worker, who balanced the reality of hard work with lessons for his children and humor for his co-workers.  He spent over 40 years working for the railroad, retiring from CSX, formerly Conrail.

Survivors include his loving partner of over 13 years, Peggy Turner; the mother of their children, Esther Howell; children, Emily Howell of New London, Cory Howell of Nova and Sarah (Joe) Thomas of New London; grandchildren, Lilian Bartow, Sasha Bowens, Georgia Grace Thomas, Henry Thomas, Lincoln Hancock, Brady Thomas and Robert Taylor Jr; siblings, Tom (Carol) Howell of Columbus, Roger (Ann) Howell of Willard, Jennifer (Tony) Conti of Pennsylvania, Deborah Howell of Florida, Melissa (John) Martin of New London, Billie (Greg) Byers of Indiana and Brian Howell of Monroeville.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles (Pam) Howell.

The family is planning a celebration of Bump's life on March 6, 2021 at the Hileman Building, New London, starting at 5 p.m.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to either the New London Recreation Park, 2 Blake St., New London, OH 44851 or the New London Athletic Boosters, 29 S.
