Obituary

Robert A. Cole, age 91, of Nova, died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at Samaritan Regional Health System, Ashland after an apparent heat attack. He was born June 23, 1916 in Ashland, son of the late Von E. and Edna (Hileman) Cole. He grew up in Sullivan, lived in Wyandot, Michigan for 6 years and in Nova since 1942. Mr. Cole was a 1934 graduate of Sullivan High School, where he had been class president. He was a pipe fitter and union member since 1943 having retired in 1976. Mr. Cole was a business agent for the Local 637 pipe fitters union for 21 years where he also served as president of the Ohio State Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters. He was a charter member of the Ruggles Troy Twp. Fire Dept. where he had been the first president and chief for 25 years from 1953 - 1978. He was the past vice president of the Nova Telephone Co. for 20 years. Mr. Cole served on the board of the AFL-CIO for 23 years, was a past president of the Richland County Mansfield area Building Trades, and was president of the Nova Farmers Supply. He was a life member of the NRA since 1945, a member of the Sullivan F&AM Lodge #313 since 1943. Mr. Cole was also a member of the Sullivan Congregational Church since 1928 where he had been a Trustee, a deacon, and a moderator. He is survived by his wife, Ann V. (Kott) Cole, whom he married June 8, 1940; his daughters, Ruth & Dale Wells of Nankin, Carol & Larry Swineford of Ashland, and Bonnie Jean & Kenney Pauley of Mansfield; 6 grandchildren, 9great grandchildren, 1 step-grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his brother, Morton Cole. Friends may call from 5 ' 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London. Friends may also call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Sullivan Congregational Church with Pastor Donald Farley officiating. Burial will follow at the Sullivan Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be given to the Sullivan Congregational Church, 503 U.S.Rt. 224, Sullivan, Ohio 44880.
