Robert E. Esch, age 85, of New London, passed away at Norwalk Memorial Home on February 26, 2016. He was born on December 26, 1930, in New London, to the late William and Olive (Swanger) Esch. Robert lived in this area most of his life and graduated from New London High School in 1948. He worked at the former Ohio Body and retired from Willard Machine. During his younger years he was a pilot. He was a member of the Mason 32nd Degree and the New London United Methodist Church. Robert enjoyed his children and his grandchildren and he liked to have breakfast with friends at McDonald's. He was an avid bird watcher. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Betty (Farley); daughter, Melanie (Larry) Cooke of Columbus; son, Mitchell (Debb) Esch of Norwalk; grandchildren, Aaron (Mary), Sean (Alicia), William (Eve), Jeffrey, Kyle and great grandchildren, James, Valerie, Paige Cooke, Ella and Emma Esch. Robert's family will greet friends from 6-8 pm on Monday, February 29, 2016 at Eastman Funeral Home, New London, and on Tuesday from 1 pm until the time of services at 2 pm with Pastor Marty Daly officiating. Burial will follow in Grove Street Cemetery, New London. Robert believed in many different charities and donors are welcome to make donations to the charity of their choice.
