Robert Lee Hoffman, age 51, of Bellevue, died Sunday, October 12, 2008. Born in Ashland on March 13, 1957, Robert was a 1975 Black River High School graduate. He earned his bachelor's and master's degree from The Ohio State University. He was one of the top five graduating seniors at The Ohio State University in 1980.
Bob was the Agriculture Education Teacher and FFA advisor for Bellevue High School for 27 years. While at Bellevue schools, he was named the Bellevue Teacher of the Year several times and also won a national award as a top young agriculture education teacher. He served as president of the Bellevue Teachers Association for 6 years, as the assistant superintendent of the Beef Department at the Ohio State Fair for over 20 years, and as the past president of the Ohio Simmental Association. In addition, he was a member of the Delta Theta Sigma Fraternity, a lifetime member of the Ohio FFA Alumni, and a life member of the OAAE.
He also was an honorary state and American FFA degree recipient and a winner of the state FFA alumni association meritorious service award. Bob had a passion for teaching young people. He also enjoyed raising cattle and English bulldogs and judging livestock shows.
Survivors include his parents, Lyle and Donna Hoffman of Wellington; a brother, Mark (Abbey) Hoffman of Ashland; and two nephews, Owen A. and Aiden D. Hoffman. Bob was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Elwood and Mary Hoffman; and his maternal grandparents, Lloyd and LaVerne Weyer.
Friends and family will be received from 2-9 p.m. on Friday, October 17 at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Wellington High School Gymnasium, 629 N.
