Robert G. Manning, age 74, of Wellington died Monday, August 11, 2008 at Metro Health in Cleveland. Born November 28, 1933 to the late Nicholas and Ann (nee Fiedler) Manning, Robert grew up in Chicago and lived there until he moved to Ohio in 1968. He attended Lane Tech High School in Chicago and was a 1957 graduate of Northwestern University. Following graduation, Robert served in the U.S. Navy from 1957-1960 in Aviation Electronics.
Robert worked at Universal Oil and Abbott Laboratories in Illinois before beginning a long and satisfying career with Durkee Foods in Strongsville serving as the Manager of Analytical Chemical and Statistical Services. He was a member of the both the Pittsfield Community Church and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Berea. He was an active member of the American Oil Chemist Society (AOCS) which honored him for his service on scientific, literature, and review committees.
Robert was devoted to loving support of his family, with all of his heart, time, wisdom and thoughtful words of encouragement.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Winifred (nee Schmidt) Manning; his daughters, Hyldee (Mark) Hess of Pittsfield and Drs. Lauree (David) Manning-Cano of West Palm Beach, FL. Robert is also survived by four grandchildren, Laryssa, Alex, Robert and Andrew.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 14 at the Pittsfield Community Church, 17026 St. Rt. 58, Wellington, located on the corner of St. Rt. 58 and St. Rt. 303, with Rev. Kenneth Gerhardt officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in North Olmstead. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Pittsfield Community Angel Food Ministries.
