Robert C. Martin, age 69, of New London, died Friday, August 24, 2007 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk, after a short illness.
Bob was born August 5, 1938 in New London, son of the late, Robert O. & Ruth (Robinson) Martin. He had lived most of his life in New London. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a life time member and former commander of the New London American Legion Broome-Wood Post #292.
He worked in the family restaurant 'Bob's Village Restaurant' and for Remote Site Catering in the Gulf of Mexico in oilfield operations. He had also managed the Mickey Mart in New London for several years. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, family card games; was an Indians fan and loved to cook.
He is survived by his wife Rita Martin; daughters, Lisa (William) Vandergriff of Georgia, Antonia Martin at home, Susan (Dominic) Dambro of Ashland, Belinda Plues of New London and Christina Fowler of Olatha Kansas; and a son, Christopher (Holly Hoffman) Martin of New London; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sisters, Julia Ann Stewart of Ashland, Nanette Bilton of Norwalk and Elizabeth Pagniano of Port Clinton; and brothers, John Martin of New London and Jim Martin of Akron. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Betty Jean Martin in 1982.
Friends may call 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London, where funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2007. Rev. Doug Taylor will officiate and burial will follow at Grove Street Cemetery in New London with military rites. Memorials may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
