Robert Dean Matcham, 92, of Wellington, died Sunday, December 15, 2019 at Amherst Hospital. Born on November 18, 1927 in Oberlin, he was the son of the late Forrest and Lena (nee Coates) Matcham. Robert grew up in Brighton and was a 1946 graduate of Brighton High School.

Robert proudly served in the United States Air Force for 4 years as a MP, and then served several years in the Air Force Reserves. Robert owned and operated Matcham Sales and Services in Wellington for many years, specializing in small engine sales and repairs. He was a long time member of the Wellington VFW, Legion, and Eagles. Robert enjoyed attending flea markets and tending the flowers in his garden. He was skilled at building models and made numerous cars, boats, and planes for himself and for family members.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Elizabeth (nee DeVies); children Susan (Jeff) Walker, of Wellington, Sandy (Harvey) Waggoner, of Huntington Beach, CA, and Jerry (Bella) Matcham, of West Salem; grandchildren Jeffery (Brandi), Monica, Kris, Robert, Matthew, and Jesse; great-grandchildren Violet, Owen, Griffin, and Leah; and siblings Dale, Lester (Carol), and Paul (Marsha), Matcham, Linda (Tony) Marley, and Louise Anderson. Robert was preceded in death by his daughter Sherry Matcham, and son Steve Matcham, and siblings Laura Sooy and Forrest Matcham Jr.

Friends and family will be received on Saturday, December 21, from 11 a.m. until the time of services beginning at 12 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main, Wellington. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Sherry Matcham Scholarship fund at any Fifth Third Bank.
