Robert W. Pitts, 83, of Wellington, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016 at Elyria Memorial Hospital. Bob was born on May 10, 1932 in Pittsfield Township to the late Stanley and Alice (nee Sprague) Pitts. He was a 1950 graduate of Camden High School. Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He was employed by Bendix Westinghouse. Bob bought his 132 acre farm in 1956 and continued farming from then on, becoming a full time farmer after leaving Bendix in 1961. A true steward of the land, Bob was a Lorain County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) board member from 1963 until 1993. He served as the Ohio Federation SWCD as an officer and President from 1983-1984. He found great enjoyment in his 30 years within the organization, made lasting friendships, and was later inducted into the Ohio Federation Soil and Water Conservation District Hall of Fame. As the Brighton Memorial Historian, Bob read the roll call for Brighton Memorial Day Services since 1966. He served on the Brighton Township Zoning Board of Appeals. Bob was also a member of the Lorain County Farm Bureau and an active member of the Brighton Methodist Church. A true family man, Bob was very proud of his family and their accomplishments. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Doris (nee Heilman) Pitts, whom he married on August 10, 1957; children, Elaine (Randy) Jameyson and Alan (Keri) Pitts, of Brighton; grandchildren, Jennifer (Rick) Kinsinger, Marcus Jameyson, Rodney (Lori) Jameyson, Janelle Pitts, Megan Pitts and Kyle Pitts; great grandchildren, Ella and Sammy Kinsinger and Lucas and Carson Jameyson. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Stanley. Friends and family will be received on Friday, March 18, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street, Wellington. Visitation will also be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the funeral service at 1 p.m. at the Brighton Methodist Church, 51011 State Route 18, Brighton, with Rev. James Ellis officiating.
