Robert "Bob" Poiner, 80, of Wellington, died Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Oberlin. Bob was born in Elyria on October 7, 1930 to the late William and Margaret (nee Kihm) Poiner. A resident of Wellington most of his life, Bob graduated from Wellington High School in 1948. Following high school he proudly served in the United States Army in the 3rd Armored Calvary during the Korea war.
Bob retired from the former Billington Company in Wellington where he was a foreman. For 48 years he was an active member of the Wellington First United Methodist Church, serving as a Trustee and he enjoyed helping with the Chicken barbeque. Bob was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing and spending time in his garden. He also enjoyed playing golf and cards.
Bob is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Jean (Allen) Poiner; sons, Tom Poiner, of Medina, and David Poiner, of Wellington. He is also survived by siblings, Jean Jerousek, Peg Sheldon, Bill Poiner, all of Wellington, John Poiner, of Sullivan, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by siblings, Theresa Manning, Richard, Barbara and Carolyn Poiner.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main St., Wellington where services will be held on Thursday, August 25, starting at 11 a.m., Rev. Lea Mahan officiating.
