Robert Morse Simonson, 91, of Nova, died Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk following a short illness. Born in Ruggles Township August 9, 1919 to the late Franklin Perry and Clara (nee Storrow) Simonson, Robert was a life long resident of the Ruggles and Nova areas.
He proudly served in the United States Navy. Robert worked as a core maker at Sterling Casting in Wellington for over 40 years before retirement. He also farmed and worked as a carpenter for many years. Robert loved to spend his time fishing, turtle hunting and traveling.
Robert was a lifetime member of the Wellington Eagles Aerie 2051, VFW 9943 in Mansfield, the American Legion Harry Higgins Post 88.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 44 years, Shirley (nee Trautwein); children, Bob Simonson of Ashland, Thomas (Shirley) Simonson of Apple Creek, Bruce (Anna) Rand of Kentucky and Linda (Trevor ) Clark of Norwalk; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Robert is also survived by his sister, Virginia Frazier. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Perry (Alice) Simonson, Oscar Simonson, Lucille (Tony) Harpster, Dorothy (Howard) Ciphers and Ruth (Warren) Krieg.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 1 from 4-7 p.m. at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Pastor Martin Daly will officiate and burial will follow at Ashland County Memorial Park, Ashland.
