Rodney E. Burley Sr., 79, of Norwalk, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2020 at Gaymont Nursing Home. He was born on April 29, 1940 in Milan, Ohio to the late Donald S. and Hazel E. (Pickthorne) Burley.
Rodney served his country as part of the United States Army where he was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC during the Vietnam War. He had worked for the former Janesville plant and retired from Ohio Edison, where he was a supervisor, after over 30 years of dedicated service.
He was a member of the Norwalk Eagles 711 and Norwalk V.F.W. Post 2743. Rodney enjoyed U.F.O. studies, model trains and camping, and had a United States Flag Collection of which he was quite proud.
Survivors include his children, Rodney (and fiancé Heidi) Burley Jr. of North Fairfield and Cynthia (Chris) Smith of Monroeville; siblings, Thomas Burley, Joanne Jenck and Diane Koch; grandchildren, Sunshine Burley, Danielle Rang, Hillary Duff Burley, Dylan Davis and Mercedez Burley and several great grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends is planned for Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, from 3 P.M. until 5 P.M. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Gaymont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the compassionate care they showed to Rodney.
