Roger Arthur Hirzel, 83, of Wellington, died Friday, September 23, 2011 at his home surrounded by family. A son of the late Albert George and Julia (nee Moses) Hirzel, Roger was born on August 13, 1928 in Cleveland. He graduated from North Ridgeville High School. Roger proudly served in the Army 4th Infantry Combat Engineers during the Korean War. He retired in 1983 as a foreman at Columbia Gas after 30 years of employment. He enjoyed many hobbies. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara (nee Harrison); daughters, Lynn Obechi, of Lorain, and Karen Rossell, of Wellington; 2 grandchildren, Ben Rossell and Annette Obechi; and brother, Albert Hirzel. Roger was preceded in death by sons, Brian and Christopher and a brother, Edgar. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 26 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Brian Burke officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery with military rites.
