Roger L. Johnson, 60, of Elyria, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2013 at EMH. Born in Clarksburg, WV on December 29, 1952 to Raymond and Golda (nee Helmick) Johnson, Roger lived most of his life in the Elyria, Lorain and Grafton areas. He was a graduate of Wellington High School.
He was employed by Moen and Roger also worked as a lineman for the Energized Substation in Wellington. Roger was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Oberlin, Christians United for Israel and The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.
Roger enjoyed fishing, golf and music. He had a true talent for playing the guitar and singing. A founding member of "The Band Ohio" Roger performed with the group from 1986 until 2010. He also recorded and played with other bands as well. His other passion was spending time with his family; Roger will be remembered as a devoted husband, very loving father and wonderful friend.
Survivors include his wife, Judy (nee Bryan); children, Michelle (Duane) Johnson-Hillwig and Brian Johnson, both of Southern California; grandson, Keldon Gray and siblings, Donna (Steve) Boham, of Wellington and John (Diana) Johnson, of Willard. In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his sister, Paulette Johnson Street.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, November 26 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service at the Calvary Baptist Church, 414 S Main St., Oberlin with Pastor Brian Kenyon officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington. The Johnson family suggests memorial donations to the Christians United for Israel, PO Box 1307, San Antonio, TX 78295.
