Obituary

NORWALK — Roland G. Reed passed away on February 12, 2020 at The Commons of Providence in Sandusky, Ohio.

Roland was born in Hamburg, New York in 1929 to George and Amelia (Castle) Reed. He joined the army shortly after graduating from high school and served in Korea. While returning home in 1950, he received a silver dollar in change and carried the coin for good luck ever after.

Roland met Anna Mae Waldron at Kent State University. In 1952, he graduated with a degree in accounting, married Anna Mae and moved to Norwalk to work for Durkee Foods.

He spent most of his career at the Norwalk Furniture Company, retiring in 1992 as Vice President of Finance. He and Anna Mae spent many winters in Arizona enjoying desert hikes, collecting rocks and basking in warm sunsets at happy hour. He loved traveling and counted Russia, Europe, UK, Hong Kong, China, Australia and New Zealand among his many passport entries.

Roland set high standards and provided an example of hard work, perseverance, and sense of humor. His witty sayings will be passed down for many generations to come.

Roland was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church for more than 50 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks Club and Firelands Area Dance Squares. Roland was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae, and his daughter Patricia (survived by her husband Steve Ringholz, Monroeville, Ohio.)

Roland is survived by his wife, Carol Owens. By her example, Carol has shown the true meaning of taking a spouse for better or for worse, in sickness and in health. Roland is also survived by children: Rick (Paula) of Lakewood, Ohio; Tom (Linnell) of Copley, Ohio; and Sarah (Kevin Brough) of Sydney, Australia; and grandchildren: Ryan Reed (Alexis); Stephanie Reed Howard (Tony); Ann Ringholz Hay (Tom); Jackie Ringholz Brough (Brian), Joe Ringholz; Brian

Ringholz; Michael Reed (Debbie); and Megan Reed Cole (Jordan). He has six great-grandchildren with a seventh due in July.
