Norwalk, Ohio - Rolland K. "Ron" Berner, 74, of Norwalk, Ohio, his journey here on earth complete and surrounded by his family, Our Lord called Ron from his earthly home to his eternal home, Saturday, October 20, 2018. He fought multiple health issues for over 4 years. Born January 2, 1944 in Norwalk, Ohio, to the late George and Hilda (Silcox) Berner, he was raised on the family farm in North Fairfield, and graduated from South Central High School in 1963. Ron was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Norwalk, Ohio, where he met and later married Judith Bahnsen on October 16, 1965. Ron served his country in the U.S. Army from 1965 - 1967, having attained the rank of Sgt. He retired in 2005 after 37 years from General Motors/Delphi Corp. (formerly New Departure) in Sandusky, Ohio. He was a member of Ken Bur Bell Post #41 American Legion, member and past director of the Norwalk Conservation League, and was a former member of Eagles Aerie #711. Ron loved to play Dartball, at times playing in 3 different leagues. He served as treasurer of the Huron County Dartball League until his death. He was a past president of the Lutheran Church League, and had a team in the Norwalk Church League as well. Ron enjoyed mowing his lawn, tending the garden, and his chickens - with "chores" complete he could be found playing solitaire on the back deck. Ron is survived by his wife of 53 years; daughter, Jennifer (Chris) Thornberg of Toleo, Ohio; their children, Ryan and Rachael; and daughter, Victoria (Col. Christopher, USMC) Feyedelem of Albany, Georgia, and their sons, Jake and Isaac. He is also survived by his brother, Bertram (Chia-yun) of Stuart, Florida, by his sisters, Gladys Miller of Norwalk, Ohio, and Darlene (Tom) White of Monroeville, Ohio, by numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. He was a true people person, and "knew everybody". Ron was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Nelson, by his parents, and great grandparents. Friends may call on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Friends may also call on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. in St. Peter Lutheran Church, 243 Benedict Avenue, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Ann Marshall will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by Ken Bur Bell Post #41 American Legion.
